Marketing Yourself on YouTube

YouTube is not just for watching movie clips, funny videos or how to tutorials. There are other great uses for it also, one of which is creating what are called 'Infomercials'. These can be used to promote a product or service.

The first thing you need to do is get your camcorder ready. If you do not have one of these then what you can to do is use a photo of the product you wish to promote and then create a slideshow which demonstrates it. The slideshow would include narration and you could talk about the features and benefits of the product.

There are plenty of examples of infomercials on the internet and a quick Google search should give you an idea how yours should be looking. Do a search for video podcasts and see what results are returned.

What you must aim for is a good intro. The intro is what will hook the viewer in initially. Study the intro of other infomercials and see if you can pick up any ideas. A pleasant greeting is essential and you could also add a title of some kind if you so wished.

The ending is just as important as the intro though. With the ending you want to thank people for watching and then display your company name and website link. If you have access to editing software such as Windows Movie Maker then you can add animation effects as well as great titles.

Between the intro and ending of course is the main part of the video. This is where your viewer will either decide to listen to what you have to say or click onto another video. You must try and be engaging and talk clearly. Don't drone on and on, but keep the video short.

Make your video compelling and you will have a potential customer. It may be worth rehearsing things prior to creating the final video. If you come across well there is a fairly good chance the viewer will click through to your website to find out more. You must try and emphasise how your product or service can solve their problem.

Infomercials work great for tutorials also. If you sell these from your website then use YouTube to talk about what people can expect to learn from your tutorials. You can use a snippet of one of your tutorials and add your website link in there.

If you are a job seeker you can create an infomercial promoting yourself quite easily. Create a video resume outlining your skills, qualifications and the type of job you are looking for. You can then email this link to employment agencies as well as employers worldwide. The potential here is enormous.
